Rules

The Blight Club by-laws, for reference.

Glossary

Terms that are used in the rules of Blight Club.
Blight

The game that must be played during a Blight Club round. Can also describe the sessions during which a Blight is played.

Blighted

The person who has been selected to play a Blight.

Support

The other members of the cast who are not currently subjected to a Blight.

Standard rules

These rules apply to full-length Blight Club games, typically played by the main cast of Dan Ryckert, Jeff Grubb, and Mike Minotti. These may include mainline Blight Club games as well as full-length spinoffs like Blightning Round and Blight in the Bank. If there is a conflict between two rules, the rule higher on the list takes precedence.
  1. Alex Navarro is the god of Blight Club. All rules are subject to his whim.
  2. Do not bother the god of Blight Club with your mortal squabbles.
  3. Support cast will allow for self-care and mental health needs as required.
  4. If all Support members agree, a rule may be overridden a single time or for an agreed upon length of time. Support members may agree on a punishment if rules need to be bent.
  5. The Blighted must play their Blight to completion. The Blight is complete when the true credits roll.
  6. If the Blighted decides to quit a Blight, they must complete Bart vs. the Space Mutants on their personal stream. A new Blight will be chosen by Support and the Blighted must begin it immediately.
  7. A standard Blight should be completable in less than 10 hours, though Blights exceeding 10 hours are admissible. Support cast should use the best information available to determine if a Blight will be the appropriate length for someone who has never played the game before.
  8. Games are to be played on the default difficulty. If the Blighted must select the difficulty, they should choose "Normal" or whatever is the developer intended experience.
  9. Blights must be played as they were on original hardware, e.g. no unsanctioned use of save states that allow the Blighted to progress more quickly.
  10. The Blighted may not look at chat or refer to external sources during a Blight. Between Blight sessions, the Blighted may not look up any additional information or willingly receive help. Support members may provide help at their discretion.
  11. If a Blight includes a costume, all elements of the costume must be worn during the session. Adjustments can be made to the costume at the discretion of the Support team.
  12. Have fun

Special rules

These rules apply to spinoff Blight Club series and special cases.
  1. Blight in the Bank is a special privilege that may be earned through a variety of ways, and can be used to start a new Blight immediately. When a player has access to a Blight in the Bank they may deploy it at any time, including during an ongoing Blight. Deploying the Blight in the Bank will disrupt the turn order until the new Blight is complete. All standard rules apply to the Blight in the Bank round.
  2. A Blightning Round is a quickfire Blight round where each core cast member plays one game to completion. Ideally, these Blights should be short enough that they can be completed in a single session. All standard rules apply to a Blightning Round game.
  3. Guest Blight rounds may follow standard rules or relaxed rules depending on the requests of the Support cast.
  4. Blights that are played during marathons and charity streams typically do not follow the complete list of standard rules.
